So, what DOES the Steno keyboard look like?
"You will need to weigh the arguments of counsel but you are not to consider these arguments as evidence. You must not discuss this case among yourselves until the time of your deliberations."
Steno Version:
"UL TPHAOED TO WA*EU –T ARGZ –F KOUNS BUT UR –NT TO K-R THAOEZ ARGZ AS EFD PP U MU*S –NT SKUS TH KAEUS PHOPBG KWRAOURSZ N-L –T TAOIPL –F KWROUR TKHREUBGSZ PP"

Hiya Julie! Nice to see you as always! Isn't it wonderful to eat good food? One wishes the stomach had a greater capacity, but I do know what you mean!
I laughed when I read your comment about the keyboard. I will find some history on it for you and post that up also! It really doesn't make sense in the beginning and takes a lot of work and memorization. To make things more complicated, one learns not only how to write phonetically, but also how to brief words and phrases, so "Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury" becomes: HR-which is initial L)-A-EU-(which is I)-R-PBLG-(which is J) !! If you read it as steno it says: LAIRJ. So we have bunches and bunches of briefs that we learn in order to help us write faster!! Heaven help you if your fingers type the wrong keys, reading back is an art in itself!!!
I like the way you learned acronyms and mnemonics to help you remember stuff - that's GREAT logic! We did a lot of medical terms and legal terms, but as I'm sure you realize, we can't know EVERYTHING as we are not medical or legal specialists. We had a medical dictation today, about an autopsy, which was very difficult. While I love spelling those medical terms in English, it's jolly hard to think of them phonetically, and they usually take a number of strokes for each term!! Phew~! It's tough! I love your rambling, by the way, anytime! LOL, I learned the order of the planets in our solar system as: My Very Energetic Mother Jumped Straight Under Nine Planets! LOL. My hubby had to go to work today and was still not feeling good. I went to school and ALMOST passed my first 100 Q&A. I had three drops (I did not get some words down, so I got double the amount of errors allowed to pass that speed. We have three categories of dictation: Q&A (testimony); Jury Charge and Literary. The Literary can be about anything under the sun! We have to pass two of each category to "officially" move up to the next speed. We also have to turn in 30 transcripts for each speed class. I have already turned in 30 since we started mid-January, so I'm not worried about that. I am working hard! Thanks for the health advice, you're a darlin! We both rested up yesterday, slept on and off for most of the day and I think it was good for both of us. I didn't think about ice on the wrist, thank you, I will remember that one!
Look forward to chatting again soon! BigHugs and love to you,
Sue-Lynn
